New Year’s Eve Party Tips

In response to requests from customers and readers, I decided to write some things to help in this end-of-the-year chaos. This is always a time of great rush, anxiety and expectations. Many meetings, trips, fraternization parties and a more busy social life than usual contribute even more to this. Therefore, it is normal to leave our routine and leave some priorities aside to meet all these activities. The feeling is that at this time of year it becomes more difficult not to think about tomorrow and anxiety can come with everything.

Think that this time of year is a good time to reflect and thank you for what has happened in the last few months, since the most difficult things that probably made you grow, like the most delicious that made you happy. Everything is valid, even if most of the time we only realize later, right?

Some words for those who are in Brazil with the anxiety of being in the summer and on the beach in a bikini. Remember that regardless of the season, taking care of yourself and doing the rituals that make you feel good is something to be cultivated all year, for you and for you. Another thing, being thin is not synonymous with health, much less beauty. If you agree with this, manifest this.

at supper time

Christmas celebrations are directly related to a lot of plenty and options on the table. I don’t think this is a problem, because it’s a time and an opportunity for people to express their love and affection through a dish, this is cultural and I think it’s wonderful that this tradition continues to this day. Seek to see this moment as the true celebration of love, don’t let your fear and/or anxiety get in the way of this very special moment!

For this, a strategy that I recommend to my patients is to start the Christmas dinner/lunch opting for the lighter starters and appetizers (fruits, nuts..etc) and at the time of the meal, start with a very generous salad. The second tip is to choose your favorite dish and taste it with pleasure. Have you noticed how sometimes we eat just because it’s on the table? The secret will always be common sense, so enjoy!

mindful eating

Enjoy the food and the moment, be present Taste the memories that Christmas food can bring. Chew, enjoy and thank you for the food on your plate. I don’t think the way is to be neurotic and radical, but I think the exercise of reflection is fundamental to learn to recognize and control our wills and impulses. So enjoy with conscience and with pleasure this moment!

What I perceive and that has happened to me a few times is that we have entered this wave of Christmas and eating that we often don’t even pay any more real attention to our choices, that is, we are eating but we are not enjoying and actually enjoying this meal and in that moment that the celebrities happen Christmas Evils!!! So try to be present and aware of your choices, without a doubt it will be much more pleasant to eat in this way.

Listen to your satiety

Another important point is to know how to listen to your body and realize when he is satisfied! Take advantage of this moment to eat foods that are not normally part of your food routine and enjoy it! Try to really enjoy this meal, eating slowly is super important for digestion and this will make you feel satisfied with what you really need, not beyond. When we eat too fast, our body doesn’t have time to realize and process that it’s ingested enough, so we end up eating too much. Another tip is to stay hydrated, opt for flavored waters, sparkling water with lemon and digestive teas after meals! Thirst can be confused with hunger by our body, so this tip can help a lot!

be present

Nowadays it seems almost impossible to be just present in your own life, especially with your cell phone in hand at all times. Social media can be amazing in many ways, but for occasional moments. I strongly believe that if we want to improve the quality of our real moments, we need to know the moment to disconnect from the virtual world and this is a time that calls it. My tip here is to really be present, leaving the cell phone aside and talking to the people who are really present with you.

Boost in Digestion

Considering that we can go beyond our \”I’m satisfied\”, how about thinking of some teas or tonics to stimulate digestion after the meal or relief from the famous hangover?

  • Post-meal digestive tonic: 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (prefer raw, organic and filtered) with a pinch of cayenne pepper diluted in 1 glass of water.
  • Cinnamon ginger tea (include ginger pieces in boiling water)
  • Chamomile tea with lemon
  • Secure your greens: as always, don’t forget a nice salad at events to help your intestines work well. or guarantee very nutritious dishes throughout the day to increase fiber support, smoothies They are one of my favorite options. Mainly dark green leaves that contain more magnesium, also an important antioxidant and stimulator of peristaltic (intestinal) movements.
  • Extra drinks? Chlorella can help.** It can be consumed before and after drinking alcohol,  To give extra support to the liver and a boost of vitamin B complex (main vitamins we eliminate when we drink more alcohol, one of the reasons we feel fatigued the next day). Chlorella can be found in capsule or powder. Dosages are individual, but they would usually be from and 3 to 6 capsules a day or 2 to 3 teaspoons, but it can vary according to each.

** People who are allergic to iodine or consume drugs such as Coumadin/Varfarin (anticoagulants) should consult a doctor for a safe consumption of Chlorella.

Take it easy

Negative thoughts about your body, fear of gaining weight and need for control at parties will only ruin a moment that could be very pleasurable and will cause you anxiety. Flexibility is part of a healthy diet. We balance ourselves little by little and in a way that we can live a healthy life always, all year round. Things are not always the way we imagine or hope, relationships with the family and the people we love the most can be challenging at times, but look aside and realize that despite all possible difficulties or disagreements, in the end your family will always be by your side, Literally!
