Kichadi: Feeding the Soul

Good morning everyone!! I really wanted to share this recipe with you and also the basis of the philosophy behind it. In addition to being one of those foods that comfort and warm the body and soul, Kichadi is recommended in Ayurveda for almost everything! do you have the flu? Kichadi! Have intestinal problems? Kichadi! are you sad or happy? Kichadi! It is a recipe that has the ability to restore balance through its cleaning and detoxification properties, according to Ayurveda’s view.

End of last year I had a very stressful travel routine, where I gave workshops in several places and I stayed away from my routine that I like so much. I allowed myself to continue with the flow without neuras to adapt to the food and general routine options according to where I was. Of course, after a few months away from my routine, I felt a little airy, with a huge need to feel more focused and stay at home, quiet and take care of a little more of everything that balances me. as important as allowing yourself to live without much control over everything, is to know the time to rebalance yourself.

That’s when I came across this recipe, also known as the kitchiri, kitcheree or khichri. This Indian recipe is made from simple ingredients and all combined into a single pot!
According to Ayurveda, there are three basic constitutions (doshas) in our being and which is determined according to the predominant characteristics of each individual. The three doshas are: Vata (air and ether), pitta (water and fire) and kapha (water and earth).
According to philosophy, we will be healthier and with our energy enhanced when these three elements are in balance. And when there is some misalignment, there is a greater probability of getting sick and our vital energy is low.

This dish is considered a complete meal that works as a detoxifier for your body in addition to containing ingredients that benefit and balance the three doshas..
For the benefits, Ayurveda suggests that for a period of 3-7 days all your meals will be Kichadi. I particularly find it very challenging to spend 7 days eating just that at every meal, because I love variety and follow my desires. But the recipe is so delicious that I don’t see the need to just associate it with detox, but as a meal option in your day!

Regardless of whether you are open to the experience or not, this recipe is worth trying!
